Save St Charles Hall Hadfield

We are looking to try and launch a friends group to save St Charles Hall in Hadfield. The hall is around 150 years old and use to be St Charles School until it moved to Chapel Lane. The school was once attended by Booker Prize winner Hilary Mantel. When the school moved the hall was used by the church for plays and events, the hall was also used for scouts, guides, brownies and was also the polling station for the local and general election.

We are looking for people to get involved with the saving the hall, we are having an event outside the church near the Rectory on the 11th of June at 10-2pm to raise some funds and to form a friends group and generally find out what people would like to see the building used as. there will be tea and coffee and cakes, a bouncy castle and a questionnaire to find out what people want to see happen to the building. Some of our ideas are to use the building as a community centre with the police and community housing based there.

The building is in a poor state of repair at the moment, if we can get a group together we could then look at lottery funding to renovate and improve the building to bring it back into use. There are several people keen to get involved and the building is currently maintained by Darrell Critchlow. There is support from local councillors Vicky Mann, Bob Mckeown, Dave Wilcox and Edward Siddall.

If anyone wants to get involved or help out then please contact my on edward_siddall@hotmail.co.uk or on 07977729905, your help is essential to save the hall.

Local Elections 2011

Hello and welcome to my Blog, I will be using this blog to keep people up todate with the work me and my fellow Hadfield South Councillor Bob Mckeown are doing in the Ward.

Yesterday (6th of May) I was elected to the High Peak Borough Council for Hadfield South Ward, I would like to thank everyone in the Ward for voting for me, Marie Foote the outgoing councillor, for all the hard work she did in the ward over the last 4 years, Everyone in the Glossopdale Labour Party Branch for there help and support through out the last 5 months with campaigning and the advice they have given me, Caitlin Bisknell for the support she has given me as leader of the Labour Group, my family who have supported me and finally my fellow Hadfield South Councillor Bob Mckeown he is the best leafletter I have ever seen!

The result was as follow
MCKEOWN, Bob                           The Labour Party Candidate           761 ELECTED
SIDDALL, Edward                           The Labour Party Candidate          725 ELECTED
FOOTE, Marie Melita                       Conservative Party Candidate        599
FOOTE, Stephen Dennis William      Conservative Party Candidate         568

the results all over the High Peak were good for Labour we gained 12 seats taking the total Labour Councillors upto 21, 1 short of over all control> This is a great result and shows that Caitlin is doing a great job and we chose some fantasic people to be Councillors. The only down side is that Damien in Old Glossop, and Rob and Nick in Simmondley didn't get elected, but with the close results in these wards shows that with some work and good candidates we should be able to win these seats at the next Election.
